Jeffrey James Godfrey accused of the murder of Vanessa Godfrey to have mental health assessed

The man who allegedly murdered beloved mum Vanessa Godfrey on the Sunshine Coast is still waiting for his mental health report to be completed, a court has heard.

The man accused of killing a much-loved mother in a Sunshine Coast unit on Valentine’s Day is still waiting for a mental health assessment six months after his arrest.

Jeffrey James Godfrey, 50, is charged with the murder of Vanessa Godfrey, who he was legally married to and was the mother of his children.

Ms Godfrey’s body was found inside a Pelican Waters Resort room about 3.35pm on February 14, 2022.

Police will allege the pair had failed to check out on that morning after staying at the resort prompting a staff member to conduct a welfare check.

“When they undertook that, they found a female deceased on the bed in the room and there was another unconscious male in the room,” Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen told the Daily in February.

“It was physically obvious she was deceased, she was covered in blood and there were some wounds on her arm.”

When Mr Godfrey’s matter was briefly mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 19, 2022, his solicitor, Kylie Anderson, said she was still waiting to receive a report from the chief psychiatrist's office.

The case against Mr Godfrey was suspended while he underwent a mental health assessment at “The Park” facility.

Ms Anderson said the Bli Bli man has since been transferred back to Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre, where he remains in custody.

The matter was adjourned to November 4, 2022, for further mention.
