Jacinta Maree Hyland found with $9,334 drug money, marijuana dealing texts

A convicted Sunshine Coast drug trafficker ‘reluctantly’ gave the pass code of her phone to police after she was busted with more than $9000 worth of drug money.

A convicted Maroochydore marijuana trafficker was found with nearly $10,000 of drug money and dozens of drug dealing messages when her home was raided by police, a court has heard.

Jacinta Maree Hyland, 58, received more jail time after she was pinned with $9,334 - considered to be the proceeds of drug dealing - as well as a bong, a phone and a tablet, found during a search at her Maroochydore home on February 5, 2021.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the drug money was found in an ice cream container under Hyland’s bed.

Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer told the court on Wednesday that the Maroochydore carer “reluctantly” provided the pass code to her phone and tablet to police.

The court heard the phone was brimming with texts and Facebook messages related to dealing drugs.

Police uncovered more than $9000 in cash when they executed a search warrant at Jacinta Hyland’s Maroochydore home.

Defence lawyer Neil Toben told the court the charges related to a sentence Hyland received in the Maroochydore District Court on April 4, 2022, where she was sentenced to two years and six months’ jail for trafficking and possessing marijuana.

Hyland was not in court during her sentencing due to the unavailability of video links from the Helana Jones Correctional Centre in Brisbane.

Mr Toben submitted a guilty plea on Hyland’s behalf for possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence, possessing utensils and possessing property suspected of being used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

She was given a head sentence of nine months’ jail with her parole release date set for September 4, 2022.

Convictions were recorded.
