A young Sunshine Coast man will face court next month after he allegedly assaulted two men in separate fights weeks apart on the Noosa glitter strip.

The 23-year-old Bli Bli man was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm following an alleged serious assault at Hastings St, Noosa Heads on Thursday, in which a 29-year-old Sunshine Coast man was stomped on while unconscious.

The accused was also charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company after he allegedly assaulted a man within the same precinct at nearby Noosa Junction on December 10.

He was refused police bail appeared at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on New Year’s Day.

During an out-of-hours hearing at Maroochydore, the Bli Bli man was granted bail and will reappear in court on February 18 for a committal mention.

The charges come after police were looking for up to 15 men allegedly involved in the street fight in Noosa Heads

Detective senior sergeant Craig Mansfield said police responded to a street fight at the Hastings St roundabout near Laguna Jacks about 2am on Thursday.

Sergeant Mansfield said during the fevered incident which involved between 10 to 15 men, a 29-year-old Buderim man was knocked unconscious.

“During that melee another male person has stomped on (the victim’s) head on a number of occasions while he was unconscious,” he said.

“It’s the standout feature … a defenceless male laying on the road and his head being stomped on … it’s a sickening attack.”

Police say the men involved were locals, with some already being identified.

Sergeant Mansfield said they were still investigating who was involved and asked for public assistance.

There were police in the area during the alleged attack according to Sergeant Mansfield, however they were inundated with juveniles “rampaging through the streets”.

Police say the suspects involved had been visiting bars prior to the incident and believe it was a conflict between two groups of people in their early to mid 20s.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the 29-year-old man suffered a head injury and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

A Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman said the man was now in a stable condition.

Sergeant Mansfield said the 29-year-old victim had suffered facial fractures and could not talk to police due his state of consciousness.
