An alleged bottle-O thief has been told he’ll be spending New Years in the clink after he was denied bail on a number of stealing charges.

Wesley Stephen Craig was visibly disappointed after his bail was refused in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.

Court documents say the 42-year-old Kallangur man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly tried to cut the security cable of a phone at Telstra Sunshine Plaza.

Mr Craig was located by police shortly afterwards where he was allegedly found with several screwdrivers and pliers in his backpack.

Police allege Mr Craig was involved in a series of brazen alcohol thefts from bottle-Os in parts of Brisbane including Burpengary and Warner throughout 2021.

Court documents allege Mr Craig stole a man’s wallet on November 16 and used his bank card, before he stole a man’s laptop on a Redcliffe line train on November 25.

Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said Mr Craig had a “litany” of drug and property offending which spanned 17 pages.

Duty lawyer Jason Todman said Mr Craig had otherwise been “kicking goals” by addressing his addiction issues.

Sergeant Ruddiman said in reply to this that the 42-year-old had allegedly stolen these items to “feed his own habits and desires”.

The court heard Mr Craig had been on bail for other property charges in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court.

Acting Magistrate Raelene Ellis refused Mr Craig’s bail and adjourned the matter to January 11, 2022.

He faces eight counts of stealing, and one of fraud and wilful damage.
