A lane on a major Sunshine Coast road closed after three vehicles collided causing peak-hour traffic chaos and a rescue helicopter has been called to a motorcycle crash in the hinterland.

The peak-hour three-car crash occurred on the Sunshine Coast Mwy in Pacific Paradise in the right-hand southbound lane about 2.50pm on Thursday.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the traffic control that was in place was cleared about 3.30pm.

A helicopter was also called to fly a motorcyclist to hospital after they smashed into a tree on the Sunshine Coast.
