A man who had to halt his court mention when he coughed up blood has returned to ask for bail after he allegedly took part in a car chase in a stolen vehicle.

Nathaniel Marsden Hartwick-Buck applied for bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 22 with the help of duty lawyer David Crews.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell told the court Mr Hartwick-Buck has been accused of stealing a car and trailer in March this year.

The court heard the owner of the alleged stolen car had pursued Mr Hartwick-Buck in another vehicle and witnessed him allegedly driving through a red light at speed.

He had then reversed into the car driven by the owner, it is alleged.

Senior Constable Burrell told the court Mr Hartwick-Buck had finished his parole period for a previous offence earlier in the year.

Mr Crews told the court the 29-year-old had a relapse into drug use during the alleged offending after he had remained clean during his parole order.

He said Mr Hartwick-Buck has been living off Centrelink payment and is looking to gain a disability pension due to a serious leg injury from a past accident.

He is also a soon-to-be father of two.

The duty lawyer told the court Mr Hartwick-Buck had to be taken to hospital during his initial court appearance the day prior when he began coughing up blood.

Mr Crews explained to the court his client had sustained multiple injuries including broken ribs from a recent accident involving a dirt bike.

The court heard Mr Hartwick-Buck wished to manage his injuries before he dealt with the court matter and potentially imprisonment.

Magistrate Rod Madsen ultimately refused him bail and adjourned the matter to September 26.

Mr Hartwick-Buck was seen hopping on one leg away from the screen in what Senior Constable Burrell described as an “aggravated mood”.

Mr Hartwick-Buck has been charged with entering premises and committing an offence, possessing drugs, contravening a police direction, dangerously operating a car, driving without a licence and stealing a car. No pleas have been entered.
