A man who crashed his car on the Sunshine Motorway was arrested after police alleged he stole from a number of Coast businesses.

A man who allegedly went on a week-long stealing spree before crashing his car crash on the Sunshine Motorway will remain in custody after not applying for bail.

Darryl Raymond Green was arrested after a crash on the Sunshine Motorway at Mountain Creek on July 16.

Police will allege the 44-year-old man had stolen from several Coast businesses from July 11 until his arrest.

Detective Senior Constable Chris Lawson had previously told the Sunshine Coast Daily Mr Green allegedly targeted the chemist in Landsborough, a car from the Landsborough newsagency, a Yandina newsagency, the Yandina Hotel and a service station at Glenview.

“It’s alleged that he stole the contents of the till of numerous businesses and evaded police while in a stolen car,” Senior Constable Lawson said.

Mr Green did not appear via video link but was represented by duty lawyer Michael Robinson for his first court appearance in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, July 19.

Mr Green is charged with offences including four counts of entering a premises and committing an indictable offence, one count of stealing, evasion and failing to properly dispose of a needle and syringe.

He is also charged with multiple driving offences, including one count of dangerous operation of vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving without due care and attention and driving without a licence.

Mr Robinson told the court Mr Green had applied for legal aid.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist adjourned the matter to August 25.

Mr Green made no application for bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
