A Noosa mechanic has been granted bail after an allegedly huge Friday night on the sauce, where he is accused of attacking two police officers following a high-range drink-driving intercept.
Dallas Collin Cornell was arrested at the weekend and spent several days in police custody before appearing in court on two charges of serious assault police and one each of driving under the influence of liquor and obstructing police.
Bail objection documents before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday revealed he was pulled over along David Low Way at Marcoola about 11pm on Friday after police allegedly saw him driving his Holden Rodeo ute erratically while crossing the centre lines and turning his lights on and off.
He was pulled over and breath-tested when police detained him for further testing at the station.
Cornell was brought to the back of the police vehicle when police allege the Mount Coolum man swung his right elbow back into an officer’s face, which hit him in the mouth and caused pain.
Police allege Cornell’s demeanour immediately became “sudden and violent”, as he punched and violently resisted officers who tried to resist him.
Court documents state due to Cornell’s alleged actions, he caused one of the officers to have bruising and abrasions to his face and hand.
Another officer who was hurt allegedly suffered bruising and abrasions to his left hand, elbow, check and a chipped tooth.
Cornell was taken back to Maroochydore Police Station where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.225 per cent, more than four times the legal blood alcohol limit.
When questioned by police, Cornell allegedly said he had about three to five beers at the Wharf Tavern before he drove home from Mooloolaba to his home in Mount Coolum.
Court documents state Cornell also allegedly obstructed by police when he was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for a health assessment.
Police say Cornell works as a mechanic at a workshop in Noosa however previously worked as a long-line tuna fisherman in a family business. He also has ties to the Rainbow Beach and Fraser Coast areas.

In court on Monday, duty lawyer David Crews successfully applied for Cornell’s bail on several conditions, which included no alcohol and compulsory alcohol testing when asked.

Magistrate Rod Madsen granted the 21-year-old bail and will appear in court again on December 9.
