A Sunshine Coast couple has landed in custody after a police intercept allegedly uncovered an old-school heroin bust.
Anikee Doreen Judy Sarre of Mountain Creek and Travis Ryan McNeil of Landsborough were remanded in custody on Friday following their arrests in downtown Maroochydore this week on multiple drug charges.
Details of the alleged bust were revealed in court documents during Sarre’s failed bail application in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.
Court documents state Sarre, 29, and McNeil, 33, left the Top Spot Motel at Maroochydore about 9.30am on Thursday when Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch detectives began to tail them.
The pair turned into a car wash on Aerodrome Rd in what police claim was an attempt to avoid their intercept.
Bail objection documents state the officers did a lap of the block when they saw the couple drive onto Sixth Ave, Cotton Tree before they turned right onto Melrose Pde.
McNeil and Saree tried to enter the Maroochydore Beach Holiday Park when police pulled them over.
Officers walked up to the vehicle and believed the driver, McNeil, was going to flee.
The keys to the vehicle were removed and police arrested the pair as they were allegedly abusive to officers.
As another police crew arrived, officers allegedly saw the 29-year-old conceal “something down the front of her pants”, court documents state.
Due to no women police officers being at the intercept, Sarre was transported to the Maroochydore Police Station where a woman officer assisted.
Meanwhile McNeil was arrested and the vehicle searched, which allegedly uncovered 12 suboxone capsules, syringes and false plates.
Court documents state when Sarre was taken to the station she said she was pregnant and felt unwell, however when the female officers began their search, police allege the Mountain Creek women was aggressive and kicked out at officers.
Police allege during their search they uncovered a sunglasses bag concealed in Sarre’s underwear which contained prescription drugs, a small amount of meth and a large amount of heroin.
Photos tendered in court seen by this publication show the heroin packaged into small balls of glad wrap, which were filled into small clip seal bags.
McNeill was interviewed by police and allegedly made admissions to knowing about the drugs but stated they were for personal use.
“I don’t sell drugs,” he allegedly told police.
A search warrant was executed on their motel room, where police allege they uncovered marijuana, GHB, discarded blister packs, drug utensils and $3800 cash.
“Investigations are ongoing with respect to [Sarre] and [McNeil] regarding their involvement in drug trafficking,” police said.
Sarre was charged with 10 offences including five counts of possessing drugs, possessing heroin over the schedule and obstructing police, and made a tilt at conditional liberty through her lawyer Luke Bull.
Police prosecutor James Allen said the 29-year-old was on parole for drug offences where she received six years and six months’ jail for running a wholesale methamphetamine racket on the Sunshine Coast.
Mr Allen cited several other offences she racked up on parole and opposed her release.
Mr Bull said recent offences committed on parole were “fairly minor” and believed the Mountain Creek woman could abide by conditions.
“These aren’t,” magistrate Rod Madsen interjected.
Sarre’s solicitor said there may be issues arising from the police search and questioned the strength of the case against the 29-year-old, which could take a year to be heard in the Supreme Court of Brisbane. Mr Bull said there would also be questions on who allegedly owned the drugs and cash.
Mr Madsen however believed it was a “compelling” case against Sarre, and pointed to her recent drug trafficking sentence.
“To use the vernacular, ‘that’s up there’,” he said.
The magistrate refused the Mountain Creek woman’s bail and adjourned her matters to February 3 next year.
McNeil was also remanded in custody and had his matters adjourned to Monday for a likely bail application.
He faces nine charges including five counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one of possessing drugs over the schedule and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.
