A Sunshine Coast court prepared itself to mute a woman on video who has been accused of randomly punching a cleaner at a Nambour service station.
Defence lawyer David Crews applied for bail on behalf of Alicia Diana Gaudry in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, September 27.

He reminded Magistrate Rod Madsen there was a mute button available before Ms Gaudry was brought on video link, which was quickly put into use.

Ms Gaudry appeared to be close to tears when Mr Madsen told her she had been muted and the duty lawyer would speak for her.

She has been charged with one count of serious assault of a person over 60.

No plea has been entered.

Police prosecutor James Allen told the court the alleged incident occurred at the BP service station in Nambour.

Ms Gaudry allegedly called the victim, a 74-year-old cleaner, a “slut” before punching her, the court heard.

Mr Allen said Ms Gaudry and the victim did not know each other.

He told the court Ms Gaudry had 22 other outstanding matters in various Queensland courts.

Mr Crews told the court Ms Gaudry was a 26-year-old mother of two children living in Nambour.

He said he had been unable to take instructions from Ms Gaudry about the alleged offending but presumed the incident had been caught on CCTV.

Mr Crews submitted to the court the matter would take some time to go through the justice system, putting her at risk of spending too much time in pre-sentence custody.

Mr Madsen refused bail and adjourned the matter to October 3 in Brisbane Magistrates Court.
