A long-time Sunshine Coast dog-lover is about to open the region’s newest daycare for canines where they will be able to enjoy hours of playtime on custom-designed equipment.
Natalie Fewings, 44, is expecting to open Waggy Warehouse on Nicklin Way, Warana on September 2.
Ms Fewings, whose husband Elliott helped design and build the premises, previously ran her own business for 11 years offering a daycare and overnight stays for dogs in her home.
“I wanted to branch out, go further with it and the idea of Waggy Warehouse came to me so I ran with it,” Ms Fewings said.
Ms Fewings said she wanted to create a safe, special place for dogs to socialise, make friends and “have their best day ever”.
Her facilities in Warana have play zones featuring custom-designed equipment with ramps and tunnels for their energetic guests as well as “sensory areas” for times of peace and quiet.
Ms Fewings has also installed a cafe area for clients to sit back with a sweet treat and a drink while their canine companions take off for an hour of play.
She said their play equipment is a feature setting the business apart from others, which were designed and built specifically for the Waggy Warehouse premises.
Ms Fewing is looking forward to seeing their canine guests and their owners’ reactions to walking through the doors for the first time.
While the warehouse was designed with dogs in mind, they had paid attention to the visual amenity for clients, she said.
“I am so proud of what we have created,” she said.
“I can’t wait for the Coast to see it and enjoy it.”
Their services offer full day and half day visits while clients tend to their daily responsibilities on top of their hourly offerings.
Ms Fewings said she also has plans to offer birthday parties down the track but will take the business “one step at a time”.
Getting the business on its feet has had its “ups and downs” but has progressed relatively smoothly.
Ms Fewings said one of the biggest challenges was finding a suitable building with a landlord who accepts dogs on the premises, luckily scoring the Warana location in the end.
“We have fantastic premises in an amazing location and the landlord is just wonderful,” she said.
