Mooloolaba: Paramedics rush to Sunshine Coast beach to treat man

A man remains in hospital in a critical condition after lifesavers pulled a trio from the surf at a popular Sunshine Coast beach on Anzac Day.

A man is still fighting for his life after he was pulled from the water at a Sunshine Coast beach on Anzac Day.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the Mooloolaba Esplanade about 3.50pm April 25 to reports a man was not breathing and not conscious.

She said he was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition about 4.30pm.

A Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokeswoman said the man remained in a critical condition on Tuesday, April 30.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Sunshine Coast regional manager Aaron Purchase said three people were in the water at the northern end of the beach outside the flagged area, when lifesavers spotted the trio.

“They retrieved them from the water,” he said.

The regional manager said lifeguards patrolling at the Mooloolaba Spit also supported the lifesavers before paramedics arrived.

“It just highlights that the flags are the safest area on the beach to swim,” Mr Purchase said.

The regional manager said the lifesavers who conducted the rescue would be offered support.

“We have a peer support process and we find that meets the needs of most people,” Mr Purchase said.

The popular stretch of beach was just earlier packed with thousands of people at an Anzac Day dawn service.

A Queensland Police spokesman said a child was also transported to hospital while swimming at Mooloolaba Beach on the same afternoon.

“He was breathing...but reports of feeling light headed and faint,” the spokesman said.
