A man who allegedly bound a woman with zip ties and attempted to glue her mouth shout has failed in his second shot at freedom in court.

Matthew Keith Brown, 33, sat quietly on video link in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 20 as defence lawyer Bree-Anna Bowtell applied for bail on his behalf.

She told the court there had been a change of circumstances since his first bail application in June as he had undergone mental health treatment following a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Ms Bowtell said his charges had been suspended under the mental health act.

She told the court he had a lapse in his mental health during the time of the alleged offences and is now back in his normal state and is compliant with his mental health team.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris opposed bail and told the court there was “strong evidence” against Mr Brown.

She said the 33-year-old is facing two sets of charges, the first of which included allegedly stalking a woman and driving directly at her in March this year.

The second revolved around an alleged incident in June, where it is alleged Mr Brown tied up another woman with zip ties and assaulted her several times in an attempt to force a form of “confession” out of her, the court heard.

Sergeant Grigoris said he had allegedly tried to glue the woman’s mouth shut at one point.

He also secured her to a bed frame and threw her medication into a fire, it is alleged.

Police previously alleged another man arrived at the Black Mountain property during the incident and began to fuel his paranoia.

The woman was eventually let go after writing down a fake confession and paying Mr Brown $1000, it has been alleged.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist refused bail and adjourned the matter to October 25 for committal mention.

Mr Brown piped up at the end of his court appearance, demanding for “proof.”

“Didn’t even do half of that stuff,” he said.

“Where’s the proof, your honour?”

Mr Brown has been charged with dangerously operating a vehicle, stalking, using a carriage service to menace or harass and wilful damage following the first incident.

He has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, attempting injure by a noxious substance, common assault, deprivation of liberty, extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat, possessing drugs, threatening violence and contravening an order about information to access a device following the second incident.

He has yet to enter any pleas.
