Two people were rushed to hospital after a car crashed four metres down an embankment at the Sunshine Coast hinterland on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash involving a Toyota HiLux and a Mercedes Benz on Landsborough-Maleny Rd near Maleny around 2.20pm.

At the scene a driver was trapped inside one of the vehicles, which had rolled down an embankment and come to rest on its roof against a tree.

The car’s contents were strewn around the vehicle following the crash.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews removed the door of the Mercedes to free the 38-year-old Nambour man.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said firefighters assisted the driver from the car but did not have to use any equipment during the rescue.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the 38-year-old was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a head injury.

An 18-year-old Witta man, reported to be the driver of the other vehicle, was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police spokesman called for witnesses and anyone with vision to come forward.
