A reportable offender who previously lured two boys to a sewer drain and asked them for sexual acts has returned to court for babysitting children.

Jackson Tyler Coyle, of Buderim, was put on a suspended sentence back in 2019 for striking up a game of “truth or dare” to lure two young boys from a lake to a sewer drain where he offered them $5 each for sexual favours.

Police had raided Coyle’s laptop months earlier and uncovered 228 vile videos and 70 images of children as young as one being sexually abused.

At the time Coyle pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material and to two counts of grooming children under 12 with intent to procure them for a sexual act.

Judge Michael Rackemann condemned Coyle for acting on his “deviant sexual urges”.

As a result of the offending, Coyle became a reportable offender who was required to inform police of any contact with children.

Police conducted a compliance check on October 8, 2022, and asked Coyle about his contact with children.

Police prosecutor Brendan Newman stated that on an unknown date over the last three months he had been left alone with his female friend’s two children who were under 12 while she went to the supermarket.

“He stated that the female was aware of his background and still left her children in his unsupervised company,” Sergeant Newman said.

Sergeant Newman said Coyle told police he didn’t report the contact because he didn’t want officers to assume he had offended against the children.

Coyle said in hindsight he should have reported the contact.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Coyle had been “basically babysitting” the children, but that the charges only came about by Coyle offering up the information to police.

Magistrate McLaughlin said Coyle had already been committed to the District Court for public nuisance that breached his suspended sentence and would also be committed for the further failing to report charges.

Duty lawyer Liesel Rogan said her client hadn’t breached his reporting conditions before and was currently homeless.

Ms Rogan said Coyle had entered an early plea of guilty and had been remanded in custody since December 5.

Coyle pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching bail and two counts of failing to comply with his reporting obligations.

Magistrate McLaughlin ordered he be released on parole immediately after serving the three days in prison from December 5 to December 7.
