A Yandina man accused of murdering three people in a horror crash on the Bruce Hwy at Federal has had his court case delayed after issues with evidence.
Rafferty Raymond Rolfe, 26, faces three counts of murder after he allegedly caused a crash at Federal, north of the Sunshine Coast, which killed Gypsy Satterley, Terry Bishop and Jessica Townley on July 21, 2023. One of the murder charges is a domestic violence offence.
He is also charged with stealing a car, stealing, robbery with violence or in company, evading police, driving without a licence and dangerous operations of a vehicle.
He is yet to enter pleas.
His matter was mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 19, but he did not appear in person.
Defence lawyer James Blanche told the court the defence was waiting for additional evidence after returning a hard drive to police on January 18.
Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer said some files on the drive were unable to be opened, and asked the matter be adjourned
to recover them and return them to Mr Rolfe’s lawyers.
The matter was adjourned until February 23. Mr Rolfe was remanded in custody.
Court documents previously alleged Mr Rolfe stole an Isuzu MU-X from Gympie to chase a Nissan Navara driven by Mr Bishop, who had picked up Ms Satterley.
Ms Townley was driving a Great Wall ute in the opposite lane. The three vehicles collided on the highway, police previously alleged.
Ms Satterley and Mr Bishop were killed instantly, while Ms Townley died at the scene.
Mr Rolfe – the only survivor – sustained head injuries and was held at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital before being discharged and taken into custody.
