A prominent Sunshine Coast CEO, in charge of overseeing some of the region’s biggest projects, has revealed she will step down from the role after three years.
SunCentral was created by the Sunshine Coast Council in 2015 to oversee the development of the Maroochydore CBD and provide independent commercial and strategic advice.
The SunCentral board’s CEO, Amanda Yeates, announced she would step down from the role and look for new opportunities after joining the organisation in 2022.
SunCentral has overseen the delivery of the Maroochydore City Hall, The Corso Residences, 50 First Ave, Maroochydore Private Hospital, Holiday Inn Express and Market Lane Residences.
Ms Yeates said she was proud of the work achieved during her time with SunCentral, delivering projects on time and on budget during a challenging period in the construction industry.
“When I first started in 2022 we were right at the height of a really bad time in the construction sector and in the city centre we have really been able to buck the trend,” Ms Yeates said.
Ms Yeates said the broader Sunshine Coast community had welcomed the development boom in the Maroochydore CBD.
“People understand the influx of population has to go somewhere, I think the Maroochydore city centre is a place where people have accepted that density will be, if you plan for density you are able to preserve other parts of the coast.”
Ms Yeates said as the region prepared for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games she hoped locals would shift their attitudes to welcome the buildings and facilities set to be built.
“I think there will be a lot of infrastructure that goes in to support the events and activities and also the visitors on the Sunshine Coast,” Ms Yeates said.
“I think more importantly there will need to be an attitude we need to have, we need to really try and get on board, 2032 will bring us a lot of long-term benefits in terms of public transport.
“There is an opportunity for people to put aside the negativity going around.”
