Three years to the day after Rob Pitt’s son was killed by a dangerous driver, news of Easter Monday’s horror crash that killed a 22-year-old woman shattered the Sunshine Coast father’s heart all over again.

Mr Pitt’s son, Aaron, was just 25 when he was tragically killed alongside his colleague Lleyton Bartlett on April 21, 2022.

The pair were repairing a broken-down bus on the side of Nambour Connection Rd when they were hit by a car, driven by Kelly Liddicoat.

Liddicoat was convicted of dangerous driving causing death and jailed for six and a half years with parole eligibility after two and a half years in District Court.

On Monday, the Pitt family had spent time with Aaron’s friends and family to mark the third year after his death when they heard the news of a crash and alleged carjacking that had killed 22-year-old Jocelyn Grace Mollee.

Tewantin man Bradley Donald Towle has since been charged with 15 offences relating to the incident. No pleas have been entered.

Mr Pitt said after hearing the news his “heart just broke” for the young woman’s family.

“It is indescribable, it is the most traumatic thing anyone could go through to get that news about your child, to hear about how they passed,” Mr Pitt said.

“I really feel for them now because they will be living this nightmare, day-to-day.”

Mr Pitt said he knows from experience there is nothing he could say to the family of the 22-year-old student to ease their suffering.

For Mr Pitt, keeping his son’s legacy alive along with the other victims who’ve lost their lives on the roads was his main priority.

Aaron’s four much-loved motorbikes and his tools remain in his parent’s shed, his bedroom in the family home remains as he left it on April 21 three years ago.

Mr Pitt said he has never forgotten the death of Stella Tan, who was killed in Nambour on her way home from work.

“They seem to come to you, these tragedies and I feel for the families and there has been so many over the last few years,” Mr Pitt.

“In all these instances they are such beautiful people and I don’t understand why it has to happen to them.”
