The mother of a young woman killed in a horrifying series of alleged carjackings and crashes says her family are “heartbroken” but want the public to know the “kind” and “gentle” soul her daughter had.
Jocelyn Grace Mollee, 22, died on Monday after a horrific six-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway at Palmview, allegedly caused by a man whose Porsche Macan lost control.
Police allege the Macan struck the side of a Nissan Micra in which Ms Mollee was a passenger. She later died of the injuries she suffered in the crash.
The alleged driver, Bradley Donald Towle – who was wanted on a warrant – also allegedly shot a 62-year-old man before stealing his car and carjacking a learner driver in a terrifying series of events.
Jocelyn’s mum Amanda Chippendale told The Courier-Mail her daughter was the type of person who would be there for friends and family any time anyone needed her.
“She was a beautiful young woman, gentle soul, and a hard worker. She was going to be a pillar of society,” Ms Chippendale said.
“She was smart, she was kind, she had a wicked sense of humour, a sense of adventure. She wanted to live life to the fullest.
“She could make people talk and she could make people laugh. She had a love of books and loved nature.”
Ms Chippendale said her daughter was a gem.
“My heart is shattered. We’re broken into a million pieces,” she said.
“Gone but not forgotten my baby girl.”
Ms Mollee was studying a bachelor of chemical engineering at the University of Queensland, something she always had a passion for.
“Her passion was water quality,” Ms Chippendale said.
“Making sure people would survive because they had sufficient and quality water.”
Ms Chippendale said she didn’t see Ms Mollee for Easter because she spent it with her partner’s family.
“I spoke to her on Easter Sunday morning. A happy Easter call, catch up,” she said.
“Jocey and I catch up every day or so on the phone or texting.”
A spokesman for the University of Queensland said they were “deeply saddened by this tragic event and our thoughts are with Jocelyn’s family and friends at this difficult time”.
“Students affected by this tragedy are being offered support through UQ’s student wellbeing services.”
Following the crash, police allege Towle approached a white SsangYong Rexton, while armed with a firearm.
Officers found the Rexton, allegedly stolen by Towle, crashed on Steve Irwin Way, Landsborough, about 12.35pm.
Police allege Towle then approached a grey Mazda 3 while armed with a firearm.
The driver of the Mazda 3, a 16-year-old Newmarket girl who was a learner driver, and her parents, ran from the vehicle and were not physically injured.
Officers arrested Towle at 12.48pm at the intersection of Steve Irwin Way and Forestry Rd in Landsborough.
Wild footage released by police shows police with guys yelling at Towle, 41, to get down on the ground.
Towle was wanted on a warrant after he failed to appear at Noosa Magistrates Court earlier this month.
