A longstanding Sunshine Coast hotel is set to undergo a major expansion, revealing plans to build more than 30 holiday cabins along with a pool and outdoor recreation area.
The company Queensland Venue Co. which operates the existing Currimundi Hotel, submitted plans for the expansion to the Battery Hill site to the Sunshine Coast Council last week.
The plans show the Currimundi Hotel expansion would include 32 short-term accommodation cabins on a vacant site adjacent to the existing venue.
The hotel was first established in the 1980s at 32 Buderim St and is described on the venue’s website as a family-friendly pub with “an epic beer garden”.
There are currently 26 rooms available for guests of the hotel.
The design plans submitted to the council show each new cabin would include one room, a private bathroom and balcony.
The planning report stated the extension would boost the area’s holiday accommodation offerings.
“The proposal involves the establishment of additional hotel accommodation on site though the introduction of thirty two cabins on a vacant portion of land to the east of the existing Currimundi Hotel,” the planning report stated.
The report also showed an outdoor area with a pool and large jumping pillow.
“Communal outdoor spaces consist of a pool, custom designed jumping pillow and recreation zone provided centrally within the development for recreation purposes,” the planning report stated.
According to the report the development would have a minimal effect on traffic congestion on Buderim St during peak holiday periods.
A meeting with the developer and planning officers from the council took place late last year, identifying the development application would need to provide a flood impact assessment and architectural plans showing how the cabins would allow adequate ventilation.
