A historic pub on the Sunshine Coast has been added to the portfolio of a prolific hotel group, which has unveiled bold plans for the venue.

The Comiskey Group has purchased the 112-year-old Imperial Hotel at Eumundi, with the official handover to take place later this month.

The sale, estimated to be in the vicinity of $20m, includes the on-site distillery, bottle shop drive-through, 15-room boutique accommodation, and the Eumundi Brewery.

The acquisition marks the group’s second hotel on the Sunshine Coast within a year following the opening of The Doonan in March and it is understood that it brings the developer’s total investment in the region to $150m.

The award-winning developers have unveiled bold plans for the hotel including new restaurants, gaming room, as well as renovating existing areas within the establishment.

Group director Rob Comiskey said he was excited about the acquisition.

“Being able to own such an iconic hotel and brewery in such a special community was an unmissable opportunity,” Mr Comiskey said.

“We’re excited about it, it’s a large hotel in a very prominent position, and after doing the inspection we could see a lot of scope for growing the hotel.”

Mr Comiskey said the group has big plans for the 5,581 sqm corner block, aiming to maximise the existing space in the double-storey hotel, while respecting its heritage, with the iconic Queenslander facade to remain.

“We love the history of the hotel, so we’re not looking to modernise it, but we’re looking to obviously renovate it,” he said.

“We do have some big plans for bars, restaurants, and gaming facilities.

“We’re looking at having an Asian fusion restaurant upstairs and a traditional hotel restaurant down stairs.

“We’re also looking at adding a barbecue and pool area in the accommodation precinct.”

Mr Comiskey said the Eumundi Brewery, to be jointly operated with Lion, will continue to form part of the hotel’s future.

“The Eumundi Brewery brand is a local treasure, well-known across the state,” he said.

“It was one of the attractive parts of the hotel when we looked at it and we intend to build upon that.

“We’ll have beers coming directly from the brewery into the new bars we’re putting in, so it’ll be the freshest beer on the Sunshine Coast.”
