The Doonan in Noosa open for business with Sunshine Coast items on menu

It might just be the fanciest pub on the Sunshine Coast, but find out if The Doonan delivers on value for money and check out some of the menu items.

Inside The Doonan

If you ever wanted to know what $6.5m buys these days, The Doonan in the Noosa hinterland may be a good place to start.

My partner and I had a rare weekday off together and decided to visit, sans child, to check out one of the newest venues in the region.

Queensland family-owned company The Comiskey Group opened the $6.5m, 2ha venue on March 2.

The Comiskey Group director Rob Comiskey previously told the Sunshine Coast Daily the “labour of love” project on Beddington Rd, Doonan had been years in the making after his family bought the property that was formerly a German restaurant.

We had no reservation and the day we visited for lunch was humid and sunny but we still managed to nab a table under the shade of an on-trend sage-and-white-striped umbrella.

We noted the other tables under shade with water mist pumping down for future reservations, and it would be wise to book ahead coming into the school holidays.

Every corner is an Instagrammer’s dream.

The sage is featured throughout the outdoor part of the venue, with amber-hued chairs complementing wicker bench seats and outdoor chandeliers hanging from undercover areas.

An abundance of plants and water features soften the brick walls and wrought iron gates and furniture.

The prosecco was pleasant and although my partner in crime lamented the lack of Sunshine Coast beers on tap, this was a minor niggle when he realised a Brick Lane brew was an option.

The Doonan delivers fancy pub grub at serious value for money.

With no threat of a small child choking on bones, we went for the whole barbecue snapper and two sides for $52.

At that price, we also decided to order some figs available from the share plate menu for $16.

The snapper was falling off the bone, the skin was perfectly charred and smoky and our sides were a great accompaniment.

For one side, we chose potatoes roasted in duck fat that were crisp and brown and great on their own but when paired with the fish — delish!

The figs, served fresh with whipped goats cheese, lavender honey and Yandina macadamias were lovely, with the standout the goats cheese that was airy and rich.

The children’s menu had the classics listed and, with a cubby house and log set-up on site that seemed plucked from a fairy garden, plus an expansive lawn to run around on and a playground under construction, the kiddos seem very welcome.
