A staff member employed at a private hospital on the Sunshine Coast has expressed their concern at what they described as “near misses” in a busy operating theatre.

The staffer, who wished to remain anonymous, said those employed by the Buderim Private Hospital had become increasingly concerned with a number of theatre practices.

Among the incidents told to this publication included a situation where two patients were allegedly anaesthetised while the surgeon scheduled to complete their surgeries was not on the hospital premises.

A spokeswoman for the Buderim Private Hospital said the matter had been investigated and addressed by the hospital.

“Buderim Private Hospital is aware of the matter, which has been investigated and addressed. The matter has not led to adverse clinical outcomes for any patient,” she said.
