Stanthorpe crime: Alleged drink driver loses control, crashes car off busy highway

Police say the Granite Belt man was driving at nearly three times the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his car just after midday. He was one of a list of people nabbed by Stanthorpe cops over the last week for drink and drug driving.

A Granite Belt man who police say crashed his car after losing control was allegedly nearly three times the legal alcohol limit. He is one of eight people nabbed by Stanthorpe police in the past week for drink and drug driving offences.

An Applethorpe man lost his licence on the spot after crashing his car while allegedly drink driving just off a busy Stanthorpe highway.

Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Gerard Brady said the man lost control of his car before hitting an embankment on Aerodrome Road.

Police allege the 32-year-old recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.116 at 2pm on July 24.

The man will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18 on a charge of drink driving.

A 29-year-old allegedly fled police after damaging a metal bin just after midnight in the Stanthorpe CBD.

Sergeant Brady said the Greenhills man was caught by police ripping a metal top off a council bin and smashing it on the ground.

“When he saw police he ran off and was later apprehended after a foot chase,” he said.

The man was charged with obstructing police and disorderly behaviour and will front court later this month.

A 34-year-old man was nabbed for allegedly drink driving at night in the Stanthorpe CBD.

Sergeant Brady said police will allege the Applethorpe man recorded a BAC of 0.065 while driving on High Street at 8.45pm on July 24.

He will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18 for drink driving.

An Amiens man was caught by police allegedly drink driving in the early hours on a busy Stanthorpe street.

Police claim the 51-year-old had a BAC of 0.063 on July 25 while driving on Connor Street at 1am.

He was charged with drink driving and is due to front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18.

A 47-year-old woman was allegedly busted drink driving on a quiet Stanthorpe street just after 7pm on July 23.

Police will allege the Stanthorpe woman returned a BAC of 0.055 while driving on Minna Street.

She will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18 for one drink driving charge.

A 48-year-old man was nabbed by police just before midnight for allegedly drug driving on a major Stanthorpe highway.

Sergeant Brady said the Beaudesert man allegedly returned a positive drug reading while driving on the New England Highway at 11.40am on July 27.

He will front Stanthorpe court for drug driving at a later date.

A 26-year-old will front court after allegedly drug driving on a busy Granite Belt highway just after midday on Tuesday.

Sergeant Brady said the Glen Aplin man allegedly returned a positive drug reading on August 3 at 1.40pm.

He will front Stanthorpe court at a later date for one count of drug driving.

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly busted drug driving on a busy road just outside of Stanthorpe.

Sergeant Brady said the Stanthorpe woman returned a positive drug test after being stopped while driving on Texas Road at Broadwater on July 27 at 9am.

She will front Stanthorpe court at a later date.

Police say a Broadwater man was nabbed drug driving just before midday on a busy Stanthorpe road.

It will be alleged he returned a positive drug reading after being picked up on Texas Road on July 26 at 11am.

He will front Stanthorpe court at a later date.
