A 26-year-old woman was busted by police growing three small marijuana plants, with over 300g of marijuana seized from the Granite Belt home.
This was just one of the people sentenced in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court for drug charges.
A search warrant of Shaquille Jane Hunter’s Wallangarra home on June 1 at 11am uncovered 305g of marijuana.
Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said police found three 30cm marijuana plants, a bag of marijuana, a water pipe, electric grinder and a bong at the Rayleigh Street home.
Defence lawyer Amber Acreman said her 26-year-old client was using marijuana to treat post traumatic stress disorder following an “extremely traumatic childhood”.
“The large quantity (found) was reflective of her heavy (marijuana) use at the time,” she said.
The Wallangarra woman pleaded guilty to producing drugs, possessing drugs, possessing utensils and pipes and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.
She was fined $850 and no conviction was recorded.
A 21-year-old woman was nabbed with 2g of marijuana, a water pipe, a pair of scissors and a cone piece in her car.
Makaelyn Hope Taylor was pulled over by police in Wallangarra on January 9.
Taylor pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and possessing drug utensils.
She was placed on a three-month good behaviour bond.
No conviction was recorded.
Janet Sheila Chapman was busted with a ceramic bong during a search warrant on May 8 on Thorpe Street.
Defence lawyer Clare Hine said her client was using marijuana to reduce her “severe back pain”.
Ms Hine asked the magistrate not to record a conviction, saying it could impede her 62-year-old client’s plans to travel overseas.
Despite her prior drug history, magistrate Julian Noud said he gave Chapman “leniency” given her intentions to travel.
The Stanthorpe woman pleaded guilty to possessing a drug utensil.
She was fined $150 and no conviction was recorded.
