CRIME WRAP: Drunk driver busted driving over five times the legal limit in Stanthorpe, charges laid over car crash, theft, fleeing police, drug possession

A string of alleged offenders are due to front court over a series of incidents in Stanthorpe, including two drivers police say were nabbed driving while up to five times the legal limit, and another man police say threatened a Stanthorpe cop before crashing his car just minutes later.

FLEEING POLICE

Police say a Stanthorpe man charged with drink driving in Tenterfield on June 10 struck a sign near the bowsers at a Caltex fuel station just hours later.

Constable Shield said the incident drew the attention of an on-duty police officer, with the 42-year-old man being “known to police” and subject to an outstanding warrant.

The man allegedly pointed the petrol nozzle at the police officer’s chest and threatened to “unload petrol on to him”, Constable Shield said.

A scuffle occurred and police claim the man sped off down the highway and crashed his car shortly after on Teale Road, where he was arrested.

Constable Shield said he was taken to hospital as a precaution and a sample of blood was taken as he was exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was then transferred to Toowoomba watch-house.

At 11am on June 18 Stanthorpe police spotted a Thulimbah man wanted on drug and traffic charges.

The 31-year-old man allegedly ran from police on Matthew Street and was arrested a short time later after a foot chase.

The man was issued with a notice to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court where police will allege he was drug driving, obstructed police, driving unlicensed, failed to appear and disobeyed the speed limit.

DRUNK DRIVER
Stanthorpe police busted a driver on Matthew Street on Wednesday, who it is alleged was more than five times the legal limit.

The Stanthorpe man allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.260.

The 30-year-old man will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on July 21.

CAR ROLLOVER

An alleged drunk driver rolled his car with three passengers in the vehicle on Saturday evening.

Constable Shield said the Stanthorpe man was turning left onto Folkstone Street from the corner of Davadi Street at 5pm when his 4WD rolled onto its side.

The 27-year-old driver returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.164.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no injuries were reported.

The Stanthorpe man has been charged with driving without due care and attention and driving under the influence and will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on July 21.

DRUG CHARGES

A police raid on a property on June 18 allegedly uncovered 80g of marijuana, bongs and scales at a White Street property.

A 29-year-old Stanthorpe is due to front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on July 21 on charges of possessing dangerous drugs and utensils.

A search of a Pierpoint Street property at 3pm later that day located a grinder and a bong.

A 24-year-old Stanthorpe woman was ordered to attend a drug diversion program in relation to that discovery.

THEFT

A Stanthorpe man allegedly stole 40 second-hand tyres from Tyrepower on Folkstone Street on June 13.

Constable Shield said in a possibly ­incident a man was caught the next day at 11am on CCTV stealing $1000 worth of tyres from Pete’s Tyres on Gourlas Court.

“Four tyres with rims and four tyres without rims were stolen,” he said.

Police arrested a 43-year-old man on June 18 for two counts of entering a premise and committing an offence, two counts of stealing, one count of fraud and one for the possession of a drug utensil.

Constable Shield said the man tried to sell the tyres and during his arrest was busted with a bong.

He will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court in the coming weeks.

VANDALISM

The disabled toilet at Weeroona park has been trashed by vandals.

Police say that between midnight and 8.30am last Monday property was damaged, the walls vandalised with spray-paint and the toilet clogged.

DRINK DRIVING

A Stanthorpe man was allegedly caught drink driving by police on Wallangarra Road.

The 21-year-old will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court at a later date where police will allege he was mid-range drink driving.

On June 16 a Laidley man driving a car towing a caravan was charged with drink driving on the New England Highway at Thulimbah.

Constable Shield said the 44-year-old had a BAC of .056 and is due to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on July 21.
