Young child remains critical after tragic accident leaves him with severe burns to 60% of his body

The primary school-aged child suffered serious burns to his body, face and airways in the tragic incident.

UPDATE 8.45AM FRIDAY:

A young boy who suffered burns to more than half of his body while reportedly trying to light a fire with petrol remains in a critical condition.

A Queensland Children’s Hospital spokesman said a young boy was critical but stable condition, with 60 per cent of his body burnt in the horrific incident on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to a private property in Goomeri just before 7pm after the child attempted to light a fire using petrol, a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said.

He sustained injuries to his body, face and airways and was flown in a serious but stable condition to the children’s hospital.

EARLIER:

A primary school-aged boy has been flown to hospital after he was critically injured while lighting a fire in the South Burnett region.

Emergency services were called to the South Burnett region just prior to 7pm on Thursday, July 8.

It's believed the child had been attempting to light a fire using petrol when flames erupted, burning him from the waist up.

He reportedly suffered critical burns to approximately 60 per cent of his body.

Paramedics initially treated the patient on the scene before taking him to a showground north east of Murgon.

He was loaded into the helicopter and flown to Queensland Children's Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
