One of the South Burnett’s most popular tourist spots is about to become even more of a draw thanks to a $6.46m facelift.
The Dandabah Picnic Area in the Bunya Mountains National Park has been given the multimillion-dollar boost by the state government to help it keep pace with eco-tourism demands.
These upgrades include new walking trails, a new visitor information centre, and better amenities including more camping space.
The park’s iconic Bunya trees will remain unaffected by any of the development, a state government spokesman said.
In a statement on the funding, Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the Dandabah Picnic Area’s increasing popularity showed there was growing demand for nature-based eco-tourism.
“I’ve been visiting Bunya National Park since I was a kid and can say with certainty that from the mountain views to rainforests and waterfalls, this place is a rich natural haven, and we must ensure visitors have the best experience possible,” Mr Powell said.
The statement said about 200,000 visitors pass through the park, located south west of Nanango, every year.
