The body of a 74-year-old Fraser Coast man who went missing at Boondooma Dam in the South Burnett has been found following a five-day search of the waterways.
The 74-year-old Glenwood man was reported missing at the dam near Proston after an inflatable dinghy was located abandoned near the dam’s shoreline on Thursday morning.
Police said Monday a body believed to was found in the water within the search area about 12pm, with search crews believing it to be the missing man.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Police believed the man, whose identity has not been released, went from the main camping area to a spot called Little Cove, where he likely entered the water on a rubber dingy 5.15am Thursday, just before daylight.
He reportedly had plans to go fishing, and took a number of yabby and crab pots with him.
The man was last seen on the vessel about 5.45am.
A few hours later, about 9.15am, the boat was found with the motor running and no sign of the him.
Police began their search of the area later the same day.
Locals and visitors assisted police in the search using their own vessels.
The man’s family travelled to the South Burnett to help with the search efforts, with temperatures dropping to about two degrees during the night and in the early hours of the morning.
