Hundreds of motorbikes glided through North Bundaberg in a moving ‘ride for justice’ for Sophia Rose, who was tragically killed by her mother in Moore Park Beach on May 26.
The convoy rode through the backstreets of Moore Park Beach and made their way to the local tavern in a show of solidarity on the weekend.
Trucker John Manning who participated said he’d been to plenty of convoys, but “that’s the most riders I’ve ever seen on all of our charity rides”.
More than 200 motorbikes were reported at the event, completely filling the carpark of a BP fuel station.
“Would have been one of the biggest motorcycle rides I’ve seen,” Paul Figallo said on Mr Manning’s Facebook post.
More than $65,000 has been raised in a GoFundMe fundraiser launched for the devastated family of the little girl remembered for her “big eyes” and “infectious laugh”.
“Sophia Rose was a sweet little girl with big eyes and an infectious laugh that could light up the room,” the appeal said.
“Her smile was like a ray of sunshine and her heart was as pure of gold. Sophia always wanted to help and was the best big sister to her baby brother and sister.
“Though her time here was short, the love she gave and the joy she shared will stay with us forever.”
The girl was murdered by her mother Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, 32, who later died after being found unresponsive in her prison cell.
“The rumbling of the bikes going through our little town was loud and so beautiful, it brought me to tears. Rest in peace sweet Angel,” Riles Lindi commented.
“This community caring is so beautiful to see, thank you everyone, (fly) high sweet little angel Sophia Rose,” Kathy Hollands said.
Mr Manning said Bundaberg had it tough in recent months.
“I was also part of the Convoy for Pheobe Bishop as well. (I have) known her since she was born and am a long-time friend of the family, so yes it’s been a sad situation here in Bundaberg,” he said.
A video provided by Kylie Butler showed an almost endless procession of motorbikes departing the BP station to begin their ride, which finished about 11.30am.
