A young man made dozens of threatening phone calls to his partner while in jail, including calls to bash her and “punch the c*** right out of her”.
The 26-year-old, who can not be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to calling an approved number and requesting to conference call someone else, and contravening a domestic violence order in relation to the extended abuse between July and December, 2024.
Kingaroy Magistrates Court heard the man contacted the woman 22 times during the four-and-a-half month period, and attempted to make contact another 31 times.
The court heard the defendant would often make more than two calls per day, sometimes as many as five phone calls on the same day.
During the time of the offences the defendant was locked up in Maryborough Correctional Centre, where inmates are only allowed to call approved numbers.
The defendant would call one of his approved numbers, typically his sister or aunt, and then request they conference call in the aggrieved.
While some conversations were run-of-the-mill, he repeatedly swore at her, called her a dog, interrogated her about where she was at different times and who she was with, and demanded she send him money.

The court heard he threatened the aggrieved multiple times, saying “he will bash her and he means it”.
In one call he said, “she better look out, when he gets out he will bash her and cave her head in, and no one will stop (him) from doing it”.
During another phone conversation the defendant told the aggrieved he was going to “smash her mouth right up when her gets out, boot her in the head, bash her and drag her out of the house and make her friends watch”.
In a conversation with his aunt, the defendant said about the aggrieved, “she must want me to punch the c*** right out of her when I get out”.
The court heard the defendant also asked his father to arrange for someone to assault the aggrieved, who said the defendant’s sister “is going to bash her”.
Sergeant Gangemi said the defendant has a history of domestic violence breaches.
The defendant’s lawyer, Babu Singh from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, said while the defendant could not explain why he continued to call the aggrieved, he “accepted his wrongness” and had chosen to plead guilty.
Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said he would be sentencing the defendant to a lengthy period of imprisonment and adjourned the matter until February 20, when the sentence will be handed down.
