GoFundMe started for Christensen family after home burned to the ground, dog killed

The cause of a fire that destroyed a historic home has been revealed as the South Burnett community rallied to support the family of eight.

Fire destroys historic Chelmsford home

A South Burnett family has tragically lost everything except the clothes on their back after a fire tore through their beloved Chelmsford home.

Sprinting into the burning house, father of six Robert Christensen risked everything to save his son Tyson’s ashes before the house collapsed, searching blindly for his boy through thick plumes of smoke.

Tragically, everything else Robert, his wife Lutece, and their daughters Anna-Maree, Jesika, Sarah, Hailey, Tayla, and Mikayla owned was lost, including their dog who sadly got caught up in the fire.

Mr Christensen said a lot of precious, sentimental things were lost in the fire, which has been the hardest part.

“We actually had a big chest in the house with a heap of our son’s stuff in it. Just little mementos of him,” he said.

“There’s hair in there from his first haircut, and some of his clothes and toys. It’s all gone, so (Lutece) is distraught over that.

Emergency services were called to the Weir street home on just before 3pm on Tuesday, September 7, with fire crews finding the home already engulfed in flames when they arrived.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the fire was caused by an electrical fault, started by a heater.

To help the Christensens’ get back on their feet, close family friend Sunnie-Rose Robinson has started a GoFundMe, which urges the community to rally behind the family.

“This family has already lost so much and now they are left with nothing,” Ms Robinson said.

“I would just like to ask that anyone who knows this wonderful family or knows the feeling of losing so much, to spare a few dollars as a little can go a long way for those with nothing.”

If you’d like to donate any money or spare clothes, you can find Robert and Lutece’s GoFundMe HERE.
