It’s billed as the ultimate event to “pig out”, with the Kingaroy BaconFest delivering three days of porky goodness this weekend.
From bacon eating competitions and cooking demonstrations to food trucks and pin-up contests, the wine and swine event offers something for the whole family.
Here are the seven things you must try:
1. Run across Saturday and Sunday, the 24-hour Australasian Barbecue Alliance SunPork Smoke-off competition will see teams go head-to-head for the chance to win more than $18,000 in prizes.
Contestants must cook a variety of pork cuts, including ribs and belly, plus chicken and beef, with the best barbecued meats declared the winner.
Watch on and learn plenty of tips and tricks from the experts.
2. Take part in the annual bacon eating competition on Saturday.
Contestants are challenged to eat 200g of bacon in the quickest time possible without using their hands.
The winner takes home a year’s supply of bacon.
3. My Kitchen Rules alumni Dan and Steph Mulheron, who won the fourth season of the popular television show, will be teaching punters the best pork recipes to cook at home, including the Italian favourite porchetta, with special SunPork masterclasses.
4. There will be plenty of live music and entertainment, but you won’t want to miss the La Crème Dance Aerial Performance, where dancers fly through the skies in an impressive feat of skill and choreography.
5. Watch celebrity chefs Miguel Maestre and Matt Golinski work their magic with all manner of piggy products at a variety of cooking displays on Saturday and Sunday.
6. Got a cracking beard? Why not take part in the Beard of BaconFest competition, where fabulous facial hair will be rewarded.
7. Tuck into the incredible food on offer at the festival’s market stalls from salted caramel bacon and bacon jam, to bacon rocky road, bacon musk sticks and even bacon doughnuts.
