Kingaroy BaconFest back with a blast after two year hiatus, with more than 16,000 attendees expected

After a two-year hiatus, BaconFest returns in grand style next month and is set to be ‘pigger’ and better than ever. Here’s what to expect from the region’s most pork-tactular event:

It’s finally back, and it’s going to be even bigger than ever. The beloved Kingaroy BaconFest returns in just over a month’s time, after two years of Covid cancellations.

From smoke-offs, to fun runs and even a Kevin Bacon film marathon, everything pig, pork and bacon-themed will be celebrated August 19 to 21.

With the committee working hard since last year’s last-minute cancellation, Chief Baconeer Kristy Board said this year’s event would go the “whole hog”.

“We’re expecting record-breaking attendance numbers this year, well over the 16,000 we saw through the event in 2019,” Ms Board said.

“There’ll be bacon-eating competitions, a Rasher’s Run fun run, the Miss BaconFest pin-up pageant is returning, and of course we can’t forget the SunPork Barbecue Alliance Smoke-off competition.”

Pork-loving foodies will be in heaven, with candied bacon, bacon jam, bacon rocky road, and bacon doughnuts with maple glaze just some of the delicious treats set to be available across the weekend.

Celebrity chefs Miguel Maestre and Matt Golinski will both be keeping crowds entertained with cooking demonstrations.

The weekend will kick off with the wine-and-swine event on Friday before the main event kicks off in the town centre on Saturday.

The festival will also feature the all new Bacon Community Artisan Market and the South Burnett Youth Council’s Pig Jam Battle of the Bands.

Tickets are now available for pre-purchase at the festival website.

Volunteers are still needed for the weekend, with locals willing to pitch in some time able to grab free entry to the event and limited edition Pig Crew T-shirt for their efforts.
