A woman who had been sentenced to prison on more than 40 charges has found herself back in court after she was linked to a car stolen from a disability services organisation in Rockhampton and later found in the Gold Coast.
Narneisa Anne Caitlyn Ross pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 20 to one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Caitlin Booker said unknown people broke into a lockbox at Point Care, a disability services and support organisation in Rockhampton, and took the key to a white 2013 Toyota Hiace between 7pm on September 13, 2022 and 9am on September 14, 2022.
Senior Constable Booker said the vehicle was found on Hamilton Avenue in Surfers Paradise on October 9, 2022 about 1.30am.
She said a forensic examination was conducted on the vehicle on October 10, 2022 that included DNA being taken from the steering wheel.
She said Forensic and Scientific Services provided information to police on July 31 that the DNA sample matched Ross’s.
Ross was sentenced to 21 months prison with parole release on June 28 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 31 after pleading guilty to 46 charges, including three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles.
She was not charged with stealing the vehicle.
Defence lawyer Brendan Gimbert argued that on that occasion she had been dealt with for “like offending but more serious offences” committed around the same time.
Acting Magistrate Gary Finger convicted and not further punished Ross.
Criminal convictions were recorded.
