A mother of four who has struggled with a methamphetamine addiction will remain behind bars after being sentenced in Rockhampton for more than 40 offences, including burglary and stealing mail.

Narneisa Anne Caitlyn Ross, 28, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 31 to more than 40 charges, including two counts of entering a dwelling with intent by break at night.

Police prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Booker said the enter dwelling with intent by break at night offences were committed on September 25, 2022 and involved victims who were asleep at home.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert said Ross’ offending had occurred over a lengthy period of time, starting in February 2022 and continuing for 10 months until she was remanded in custody in December.

“It is repeatedly entering other people’s premises and taking things,” Ms Kahlert said.

“It’s at times entering people’s homes, stealing their car or being in their stolen cars, receiving stolen property and you were found with a large amount of other people’s property suspected of having been stolen.”

Ms Kahlert said Ross’ other offending included causing a nuisance at the hospital and spitting on a security officer in February 2022, shoulder barging a member of the public in Brisbane in December 2022 and a burglary in Mooloolaba on October 4, 2022 where she broke into someone’s unit and stole their car.

She said Ross was also frequently found in possession of other people’s identity cards and bank cards.

She said in September 2022, Ross was seen breaking into people’s letter boxes and getting their mail and was found in possession of a whole lot of mail that was not hers.

Acting Senior Constable Booker said Ross had a three-page criminal record and noted her behaviour was escalating.

Defence lawyer Pierre Lammersdorf said his client, who had four children, started using methamphetamine about four years ago and had since struggled with that addiction.

“She is now clean while she has been incarcerated and intends to remain sober upon her release,” Mr Lammersdorf said.

“The offending is a result of her drug use and her lifestyle at the time.

“There was no stability.

“A lot of it was opportunistic.”

Ms Kahlert sentenced Ross to 21 months’ prison, with a parole release date set for June 28, 2023.

Ninety-three days of pre-sentence custody was declared as time already served.

Ross was also disqualified from driving for one month.
