A 20-year-old mother of three has faced a Rockhampton court for her involvement in a crime spree that ended with her charged with eight unlawful use of a motor vehicle offences, stealing and burglary.

Lacinta Pauline Betty Davis pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 10 to eight counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles, two counts of unauthorised dealing of shop goods and breach of bail conditions, and one count of stealing, possessing suspected stolen property and enter dwelling and commit indictable offence.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said out of the eight unlawful use of a motor vehicle offences, four were committed while in the company of others.

“The defendant, unfortunately, just can’t stay away from stolen cars,” he said.

A majority of the offences were committed in September 2022 and April 2023.

Mr O’Connor said during the burglary on September 19, 2022 Davis acted as a lookout while her associates entered the home and stole car keys.

He said there were no acts of violence before the court.

“While nobody was hurt the defendant is responsible for causing significant financial harm,” he said.

He said $279.93 restitution was sought for stolen property from BIG W and TK Maxx.

Defence lawyer Myles Heath said his client, a mother of three, was in a relationship and committed a majority of the offences “while under what could be exhibited as duress or control”.

Mr Heath said his client was no longer in that relationship.

He said his client, who was born in Beaudesert and grew up between Hervey Bay and Brisbane, fell pregnant at 16 years old and gave birth to her child at 17.

He said she had aspirations to take up a hairdressing apprenticeship.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne sentenced Davis to eight months prison, wholly suspended for 30 months.

Davis was also fined $400 and ordered to pay $279.93 restitution.

Criminal convictions were recorded.
