Hidden Valley’s Nathan Teraki charged over Capricorn Hwy fatal crash

A Central Queensland man has been charged over a fatal head-on crash on the Capricorn Highway last year that killed another driver.

Hidden Valley’s Nathan Brian Teraki, 40, has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely intoxicated and one count of drug drive.

According to court documents, the charges were laid after Northern Territory mine worker Leslie Noel Huxham, 46, was killed in a crash on the Capricorn Highway, between Duckponds and Saint Aubins roads on October 26, 2022.

He accompanied his solicitor Andrew Scheiwe to Rockhampton Magistrates Court this week.

His matters were mentioned on Wednesday where police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst advised the brief of evidence was complete.

Nathan Brian Teraki has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely intoxicated.

Police, at the time of the crash, said initial investigations revealed that just before 7am, a Toyota HiLux and a Nissan Patrol collided head-on on, about 1.5km east of Duckpond Rd.

Mr Huxham, who was a manager at Goodline according to LinkedIn, was a passenger in the Patrol and died at the scene, while the driver, a 32-year-old Ripley man, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Mr Teraki is allegedly the driver of the Toyota HiLux and he was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr Teraki’s charges were adjourned to September 20 and his bail was enlarged.
