A Rockhampton dad who was the passenger in a stolen vehicle started using methamphetamine at 17 and claims it has been a problem for him since.

Christopher Travis Lee Tremaine, 36, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 27 to six counts of breaching bail conditions and one count each of obstructing a police officer, possessing utensils or pipes that had been used, possessing dangerous drugs, trespass and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police prosecutor Brendon Selic said Tremaine, who had a 14-page criminal record, was only a passenger in the car that was stolen by other offenders on January 23.

The court heard the vehicle was found on February 13 and that Tremaine’s fingerprints were found inside the car.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert said Tremaine had run from police when they tried to arrest him on March 15, jumped the fence of a business on Robison St, Park Avenue, and was found with a small amount of meth and a pipe.

Ms Kahlert said Tremaine had also breached his bail by failing to report on 10 occasions between February 19 and March 8.

She said on another occasion Tremaine breached bail by not being at his father’s address in Mount Morgan at night on March 15 and told police he had taken meth and didn’t want to disappoint his dad by going home.

“It shows you have some insight into your problem with methamphetamine,” she said.

“You need to do something about your drug problem or you will spend the rest of your life in and out of jail.”

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client, who was the father of children, was spending time with the wrong people.

Ms Legrady said drugs had been an issue for her client and that he started using marijuana at 13 and meth at 17.

“It has been a problem for him since,” she said.

Tremaine was sentenced to six months’ prison, wholly suspended for 18 months, and 11 days of pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
