Apprentice fridge mechanic Brock James Ivey was drink driving when he flipped his car in a collision with a taxi.

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court to drink driving.

The court heard the smash happened on the Scenic Highway at Cooee Bay, just after 7pm on May 17.

When police arrived at the scene, they saw the Toyota HiLux that Ivey had been driving, flipped over on the driver’s side.

Ivey returned a blood alcohol reading of .052.

Police prosecutor Mirren Smith said Ivey told police he had been drinking at the Capricorn Tavern prior to the crash which happened as he was driving home.

The court heard Ivey had a “limited” traffic history.

A solicitor said Ivey, an apprentice refrigeration and airconditioning mechanic, had already been punished for the crash due to costs associated with being uninsured.

The court heard Ivey had also been fined separately for failing to give way.

In sentencing on July 4, Magistrate Grace Kahlert fined Ivey $600 and disqualified him from driving for three months.

Ivey successfully applied for a restricted work licence and a traffic conviction was recorded.
