The case against a young man accused of standing by as his mother stabbed his brother to death in an alleged murder-suicide pact has been delayed after a rare request by the Department of Public Prosecutions.

Alex William Forrest, 20 at the time of his arrest, and his mother Lee-Ann Rae Forrest, 50 at the time of her arrest, have been charged with murder of Cameron Paul Forrest, 24, on April 17, 2022, at Blaxland Court, Glen Eden in Gladstone.

Mr Forrest’s case was mentioned in the Supreme Court of Rockhampton on July 26, despite not having the indictment presented yet in the higher court.

Crown prosecutor Tiffany Lawrence said the DPP was applying to the court for an extension of time on the indictment presentation.

The DPP has a six-month time frame to present an indictment to a higher court – the District or Supreme Court – from the date of the committal from the Magistrates Court jurisdiction.

Ms Lawrence advised the reason for the application was Mr Forrest’s co-accused’s matters were currently before the Mental Health Court.

Justice Graeme Crow said the Crown sought for Mr Forrest’s indictment to be presented either within three months after the committal of Ms Forrest or within one month of the Mental Health Court discontinuing her proceedings.

Mr Forrest’s defence lawyers did not oppose the application.

Justice Crow granted the extension.

In an affidavit prepared by police in Mr Forrest’s proceedings, it outlined the allegations.

The document states that while being treated in hospital after the alleged murder, Ms Forrest allegedly told police “she channelled the Archangel Michael and that the Archangel Michael stabbed Cameron”.

She had called Queensland Ambulance Service on April 17 about 12.45pm and when they attended, they called police.

The document further alleged that when police arrived, Ms Forrest presented herself to them with “outstretched arms by her body showing wounds to both wrists”.

Police located Cameron deceased, lying on a bed in the rear bedroom.

According to the court documents he had “significant lacerations to both wrists, his throat and multiple stab-like wounds to his chest”.

Police allege Alex Forrest was found inside and he had difficulty breathing along with significant lacerations to both of his wrists and that officers found a bloodstained hunting knife in the kitchen sink.

Both Alex and Lee-Ann Forrest were transported to Gladstone Hospital.

Police also allege that during an interview with investigators, Mr Forrest allegedly claimed his mother had gathered him and his brother in his brother’s room on April 16 and they all spoke about their lack of a future due to financial difficulties and the likelihood of World War 3, and she convinced them they should all kill themselves.

He allegedly claimed Ms Forrest mixed up paracetamol and gave what she thought would be an overdose to Cameron, however, it just made him feel ill.

According to the court documents Mr Forrest allegedly told police he and his mother then spent the next 24 hours harming themselves but failed to end their own lives.

Both are remanded in custody.
