A Central Queensland school boy killed after his bike and a ute collided at an intersection is being remembered as “a very good boy.”
The 11-year-old was just 100m from making it back to his Biloela home last Thursday when tragedy struck at Bell and Prairie Streets.
The boy was understood to have been on his way home from his regular afternoon piano lessons when he was involved in the collision.
Bell Street resident Hamidan Daniels has lived one house from the intersection for 30 years.
She said she was at home last Thursday when she heard “a very big bang.”
“That’s it, I heard a very big bang,” Ms Daniels said as she recalled the incident.
“When I looked through the window I saw everyone (cars) turning around.”
The boy was flown to Brisbane Children’s Hospital in a critical condition with a serious head injury but later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary information indicates a ute was travelling along Prairie St before colliding with the bike.
The driver of the ute, a 25-year-old Biloela woman, was physically unharmed.
Biloela locals have left tributes in the form of flowers, teddy bears and cards on a light pole at the intersection where the incident happened.
Ms Daniels left flowers and a card with a message for the boy’s family.
Speaking at the site on November 9, Ms Daniels said in her 30 years living in Bell Street she had never seen a crash at this intersection.
She said the boy was learning piano and he rode past her place to go to lessons and he was returning home when tragedy struck.
She said the boy came from a quiet family.
“He was a very good boy,” Ms Daniels said.
“Everyone is very sad.
“Everyone is shocked, everyone is crying - I cannot stop crying, we’re very upset.”
Investigations into the crash are continuing.
