UPDATE 12.30pm: A MIDDLE-AGED man has been found dead inside a Frenchville home after a police stand-off lasting more than three hours.

Inspector David Peff of Capricornia Police District addressed media this afternoon saying officers cleared the Irving Ave home around 12.30pm to find a 46-year-old man had died.

Insp Peff said police were initially called to the incident around 8am this morning with only limited knowledge there were unsecured firearms at the home loaded with bullets.

Police were deployed to the address shortly after to close nearby streets for the safety of the neighbours and the public.

It was understood the man had access to four firearms and several bullets.

Officers conducted a number of enquiries and tried to engage in conversation with the man, but Insp Peff said it was apparent there was a "non-responsive stronghold".

"Officers used specialist equipment, including negotiating equipment, and a police robot to clear the house for the safety of police and community," he said.

Insp Peff said the police robot was deployed through the home to view the inside of the house. The man was found dead inside.

The incident was treated with the "most seriousness" by police and community safety was the priority.

He apologised for any inconvenience to residents impacted by the closed streets.

The man's death is being treated as non-suspicious.

UPDATE 12pm: TACTICAL equipment has been moved into a home in Frenchville by police this morning after roads accessing the property were blocked.

Witnesses on the scene said officers remained at the Irving Ave home and moved tactical gear inside.
