A woman who threatened to “kill everyone” at a Central Queensland boarding house before “horse kicking” a cop, has faced court.

Jessica Ann Whickham, 38, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court where she pleaded guilty to charges including three counts each of public nuisance and obstruct police, one count of assault police, and three counts of failing to appear in court.

The court heard Whickham had a 23-page criminal record which police prosecutor Brandon Selic described as a “terrible history”.

It was told the most serious of the offences before the court was the assault police which happened on November 14 last year.

On that day, police went to Gladstone’s Palm Lodge Boarding House in relation to an ongoing disturbance.

The court heard that for about two hours there, Whickham was banging on windows, screaming and threatening to “kill everyone.”

When police arrived and asked her what was happening, she told them she “didn’t give a s**t” because she was eating and going to sleep.

Whickham continued to shout and swear, and police warned her that if she didn’t stop, she would be arrested for public nuisance.

Whickham then walked out to the street, police told her stop, and she replied: “Get the f*** away from me.”

She kept yelling at police who restrained her.

The court heard Whickham then “violently struggled” against police and tried to free her arms.

It was told that after being put in a police vehicle, Whickham continued to struggle, told police to “f*** off” and then she “horse kicked” an officer in the thigh.

As police were putting handcuffs on her, Whickham again kicked the same officer and said: “If you don’t get off me, you’re going to end up dead, motherf***er.”

Solicitor Cassandra Ditchfield said Whickham, a single woman with no children, was homeless at the time of the offending and she was also using drugs and alcohol.

“Her drugs of choice at the time were cannabis and methamphetamine,” Ms Ditchfield said.

She said Whickham intended to go into drug rehab once she was released from custody.

Ms Ditchfield said during the November 14 incident, Whickham had “lashed out in pain” at police due to a pre-existing injury she had.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Whickham to four months’ jail, declared 172 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served, and fixed immediate parole.

Convictions were recorded.
