An abandoned retail building in Rockhampton’s suburbia could be revived after it was placed on the market.
The property at 287 Dempsey Street, Koongal, behind Mount Archer State School, is a 260 sqm besser block building with two separate tenancies.
Locals would remember it most recently as the Dempsey Street Snack Bar, a takeaway and convenience store that closed around 2018.
To the left was Snoopy’s Pet Meats and signage is still up for both stores which are beside a vacant block owned by the Department of Housing.
The property is listed for sale through Nathan Price of Century 21 Solutions for $220,000 and is being marketed as a “hidden gem in the rough for the right buyers”.
While in need of renovation, the building comes with a grease trap for commercial cooking, cold storage facilities and toilets at the rear and a separate small storage building.
The current owner, who is registered to a Sydney-address, purchased it in 2016 for $535,000, however at this time it was fully tenanted.
Prior to this, it sold in 2013 for $350,000.
