A parcel of land in Rockhampton poised for a childcare development has changed hands for more than $2 million as construction is expected to start soon.

The 4,342 sqm block of land at 906-910 Yaamba Road, Parkhurst, was sold in January this year to a Brisbane company for $2,035,000.

The site was formerly owned by Rockhampton-based company Natural Wonders who bought it in 2020 for $430,000.

Natural Wonders originally lodged plans for the childcare centre to Rockhampton Regional Council and were approved in April 2021.

The development is strategically placed, located across from Parkhurst State School, and will be accessed from Mason Avenue.

It will now be a C & K childcare centre who are already taking expressions of interest.

The not-for-profit early childhood education provider has more than 330 kindergartens and childcare centres in Queensland, including nine in Rockhampton and one kindergarten in Yeppoon.

The centre will have 136 places and cater for children aged six weeks to five years.

The revised plans are split into two stages, with stage one to cater for 108 children and 12 full-time staff and stage two for an additional 44 children and 10 full-time staff, and a 36 car parks.

The construction of stage two would depend on the demand for additional services.

The outdoor plans also include an outdoor trike track and sandpit.

A construction site and fencing has already been put up around the perimeter.

Building paperwork for the childcare centre was filed with council last month by Brisbane commercial construction company TPM Builders.

Council has zoned Parkhurst a “mapped growth corridor” as more and more residential homes are built in the area.

The shopping centre opened in 2016 and a KFC was built next to it last year.

A previous planning report stated by 2030 the total daily demand for long day care is expected to be 200 places per day.
