A popular Noosa venue has revealed they’ve been forced to temporarily abandon all live music performances, following complaints from a “small group” of people leading to tougher restrictions.

The Melbourne-based burger chain, New York Minute, opened their first interstate venue in Noosa Junction in December last year.

In a post on social media on Monday, the restaurant’s CEO Antony Crowther announced all live entertainment had been temporarily paused.

“We are reaching out with heavy hearts to announce that we will be temporarily pausing all live entertainment,” Mr Crowther said.

“Due to the efforts of a small group of individuals opposed to any form of nightlife, restrictions imposed by liquor licensing and law enforcement in the Junction area have increased.”

Mr Crowther described the move as a “significant setback” and said the venue was working to ensure live entertainment would be able to return in the future.

“We are working hard to meet the necessary requirements, including completing renovations to our back room, securing the approval of our acoustic report, and updating our license,” Mr Crowther stated in the social media post.

“Until then, we must suspend our live performances.”

A petition calling on Noosa MP Sandy Bolton to support local businesses in Noosa Junction when it came to music and entertainment has amassed nearly 4000 signatures after it was created earlier this month.

The petition described the current planning scheme and licensing rules in the Noosa Junction area as “outdated” for local businesses.

“The very limited provision for small bars/restaurants to have any type of music demonstrates how out of touch and outdated licensing and planning schemes are,” the petition stated.

“These archaic rules to prevent trade put our local jobs and local businesses at risk.”
