A man has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being plucked from the ocean on the Gold Coast.
The man was spotted in the water at Palm Beach about 5.15pm and brought to shore by onlookers who desperately performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
Lifeguards have pleaded with people to stay away from the water as Tropical Cyclone Alfred whips the Queensland coast into a frenzy.
Thousands of people have flocked to Gold Coast beaches this week, despite warnings about the dangers.
It comes after a woman was swept into jagged boulders by huge waves at Snapper Rocks as she nonchalantly walked through knee deep water on an ocean path before being swamped.
