Jacob Mott, 29, suffered “significant head injuries” and died beside friends after crashing into a light post along Edmund Casey Dr at Mackay Harbour on Thursday about 9pm.

Mackay District Office Inspector Andrew Godbold said the Sarina man suffered “significant injuries” to his head.

Inspector Godbold said Mr Mott had rode ahead of a group of motorcycle riders when his bike left the road.

Rochelle Brumpton, who has organised a GoFundMe to “take stress off the family”, said the world had lost an “amazing man”.

“(He is) a beloved father, husband, son, best friend, all round great guy,” Ms Brumpton posted.

“Jacob just passed away doing something he absolutely loved and will be riding high up there.”

Inspector Godbold said Mr Mott had been wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.

“Our initial inquiries is that he moved away from the group so you could only suggest that he was accelerating away at this stage, he was probably unfamiliar with the area,” he said.

Inspector Godbold said Mr Mott was riding a high-powered 1300CC Suzuki motorcycle in dry conditions, adding the incident was “very distressing” for the group and emergency services involved.

He said there had been four fatal motorcycle crashes in the Mackay district so far this year, with only one of those not the fault of the rider.

“It’s a very big concern for us,” he said.

“Traditionally motorcyclists really don’t get a second chance, it’s a terrible thing.

“If they have speed, or they collide with an object, there’s normally not a second chance given to the person.”
