Police believe the weapon used to injure two people in a double shooting in Central Queensland was a small calibre firearm.

Officers also believe this was unrelated to a stabbing in the same town barely 24 hours later.

New details can be revealed after a man and woman were shot at different locations in Dysart including that the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the butt, as police ramp up their investigation into the serious incidents.

A 37-year-old woman and 25-year-old man each presented at Dysart hospital hours apart on the evening of April 15, both suffering gunshot wounds.

The woman presented to hospital first about 9.15pm with a gunshot injury to her bottom – it is understood the bullet was still lodged in her buttocks when she was admitted.

The man turned up at hospital two hours later about 11.30pm with a single gunshot wound to his left calf and police believe a small calibre weapon was used.

It is understood the bullet passed right though.

Police said the woman was shot in the driveway of her home address in Dysart while the man was shot just out of town on Saraji Rd.

The pair were flown to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.

Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation and are appealing for anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward.

Within 24 hours emergency crews were called to a stabbing at an address on Beardmore Cres, Dysart about 7.17pm on April 16 where a 30-year-old man was found with non-life-threatening injuries.

He suffered a stab wound to the left side area of his torso and was flown to Mackay for treatment, and has since checked out of hospital.

Police have confirmed they are not treating the matters as linked.

Further Mackay police are appealing for any witnesses with relevant information or footage after a 45-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder on April 19.

Police were initially called to a serious assault on Park St before finding the man near Moore St about 4.30am.

He was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition and investigations are ongoing.
